We have always embraced a wide variety of ways of working with our diverse range of clients.
This flexibility has led from straight consultancy for some clients to a more entrepreneurial approach which changes the risk-reward balance.
Some longer term clients are more responsive to a proactive relationship as knowledge of their market enables us to self-generate potentially compatible concepts off-line.
We look to assign the rights when and if they come to market, in exchange for royalties.
Also, in response to the perceived high cost of European design in China, we devised a different business model when designing the first DAB radios. We charge a modest commitment fee for each design chosen from a range of reference designs, add a small development and prototyping fee, and recover the deficit through royalties.
We have successfully completed dozens of projects using this business model which helps secure work in the home audio / video, Dect phone and other China made, UK branded sectors.
We now offer a similar model to startups who come to us with a good idea. We discount design fees to lower initial costs, and are rewarded for the risk by means of a royalty on unit sales, and sometimes shares.
